Dense Smoke Advisory issued June 27 at 7:17PM AKDT until June 30 at 1:00AM AKDT by NWS Anchorage, AK
* LOCATION...Interior Kenai Peninsula, including the Sterling
Highway corridor east of Soldotna.
* SMOKE...Dense smoke from the Swan Lake fire has drifted
southward over the Sterling Highway corridor from just east of
Soldotna all the way to Cooper Landing. This is producing
visibilities of near zero. There may be some improvement in
visibility during the afternoon and evening hours, but winds
for the next couple days will continue to transport smoke over
this same area.
* TIMING...Through Saturday, though there is potential for dense
smoke to persist all the way through the weekend.
* IMPACTS...Travel may be difficult due to low visibility.
Persons with respiratory problems may have difficulty
breathing when outside.
A dense smoke advisory means widespread fires will create smoke,
limiting visibilities. If driving, Slow down, use your
headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you in case a
sudden stop is needed. For the latest road conditions call
5 1 1 or visit 511.alaska.gov.
