NWS Cleveland OH
Lakeshore Flood Watch issued May 18 at 3:59AM EDT expiring May 18 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Cleveland OH
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a Lakeshore
Flood Watch, which is in effect through this evening.
* LAKE SHORE FLOODING...East to northeast winds 20 to 30 knots
will build water levels in the western basin about 1 to 2 feet
above recent average levels, or 5 to 6 feet above low water
datum.
* TIMING...Friday morning through Friday evening. Water levels are
expected to peak late Friday afternoon into early Friday
evening.
* IMPACTS...The high water level combined with the high wave
action will have potential to result in minor shoreline flooding
and erosion, especially across low lying lakeshore areas around
the islands and Sandusky and Maumee Bays.
A Lakeshore Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable
for lakeshore flooding to develop. Residents on or near the shore
should begin to take action to protect property. Listen for later
statements or warnings.

NWS Wakefield VA
Flood Watch issued May 18 at 4:05AM EDT expiring May 19 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Wakefield VA
The Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of southeast Maryland and Virginia, including the
following areas, in southeast Maryland, Dorchester, Inland
Worcester, Maryland Beaches, Somerset, and Wicomico. In
Virginia, Amelia, Brunswick, Caroline, Charles City,
Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Eastern Chesterfield (Including Col.
Heights), Eastern Essex, Eastern Hanover, Eastern Henrico,
Eastern King William, Eastern King and Queen, Eastern Louisa,
Fluvanna, Gloucester, Goochland, Greensville, James City,
Lancaster, Lunenburg, Mathews, Mecklenburg, Middlesex, New
Kent, Northumberland, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince Edward,
Prince George, Richmond, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, Western
Chesterfield, Western Essex, Western Hanover, Western Henrico
(Including the City of Richmond), Western King William,
Western King and Queen, Western Louisa, and Westmoreland.
* Through this evening
* A very moist southerly flow will overrun a frontal boundary
situated near the area through this evening. Numerous showers
and isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across the
lower Maryland Eastern Shore...the Northern Neck and Middle
Peninsula...and Central and South Central Virginia. Rainfall
amounts have averaged 2 to 3 inches since Thursday with isolated
amounts in excess of 5 inches. Additional rainfall amounts
through tonight are expected to average 2 to 3 inches, with
locally higher amounts possible.
* While flash flooding cannot be ruled out...runoff from the heavy
rainfall is more likely to result in flooding of streams and
creeks... as well as ponding of water on roadways.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

NWS Blacksburg VA
Flash Flood Watch issued May 18 at 4:07AM EDT expiring May 19 at 12:00AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
The combination of a weak stalled frontal boundary across
our region, and an area of low pressure laden with tropical Gulf
Moisture moving northward from the southern Appalachians, will
bring periods of heavy rain showers and a few thunderstorms with
torrential downpours to the central Mid- Atlantic States. Recent
heavy rains will enhance the flood threat. Additional rainfall of
one to three inches is possible through this evening, some of
this rain occurring in a very short period of time. Flooding of
small streams, creeks, and smaller rivers may occur with little
warning.
The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of North Carolina, Virginia, and southeast West
Virginia, including the following areas, in North Carolina,
Alleghany NC, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry,
Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin. In Virginia, Alleghany VA,
Amherst, Appomattox, Bath, Bedford, Bland, Botetourt,
Buckingham, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Craig, Floyd,
Franklin, Giles, Grayson, Halifax, Henry, Montgomery, Patrick,
Pittsylvania, Pulaski, Roanoke, Rockbridge, Smyth, Tazewell,
and Wythe. In southeast West Virginia, Eastern Greenbrier,
Mercer, Monroe, Summers, and Western Greenbrier.
* Through this evening
* Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected, some of this
rain occurring in a very short period of time.
* Expect flash flooding in areas of torrential rainfall.
Flooding of small streams, creeks, and smaller rivers may
occur with little warning.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
Remember...TURN AROUND...DON'T DROWN!
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Craft Advisory, which is in effect from 10 AM this morning to
7 PM CDT this evening.

especially those operating smaller vessels should avoid
navigating in these conditions. Mariners should pay close
attention to the marine forecast...and consider wind and sea
conditions in planning.
