NWS Melbourne FL
Rip Current Statement issued July 13 at 4:17AM EDT expiring July 13 at 9:00PM EDT by NWS Melbourne FL
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a High Rip
Current Risk, which is in effect through this evening. Lingering
swells from Post Tropical Cyclone Chris will slowly diminish by
tonight. Nearly 200 people were rescued from rip currents at the
Volusia County beaches in the past 3 days, including one death and
several others having to be transported to the hospital. A second
death in Martin County yesterday may also be Rip Current related.
* TIMING...The threat for dangerous rip currents will be present
all day, however the risk will be particularly high from about
1130 AM through 600 PM, surrounding the time of low tide.
* IMPACTS...Rip currents will be dangerous and life threatening.
Numerous water rescues have occurred this week, with similar
strong rip current conditions expected today. Always swim near a
lifeguard!
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

NWS Des Moines IA
Heat Advisory issued July 13 at 3:31AM CDT expiring July 13 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA
.Hot and Humid Conditions Linger Over Southeastern Iowa Today...
.The combination of high humidity and temperatures will combine
for a final day of heat index values near 105 degrees over
southeastern Iowa this afternoon. If you have outdoor plans this
afternoon, ensure you drink plenty of water and take frequent rest
breaks in the shade or if possible in air conditioning.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM CDT
this evening.
* TEMPERATURE...Highs in the low to middle 90s combined with
dewpoints around 70 degrees will create heat index around 100 to
near 105 degrees this afternoon and early this evening.
* IMPACTS...Heat illnesses are possible for those without air
conditioning or those active outdoors. Vulnerable populations
such as children and the elderly are especially susceptible.
Those planning outdoor activities need to take necessary
precautions to beat the heat.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors.
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency, call 9 1 1.

NWS Quad Cities IA IL
Heat Advisory issued July 13 at 3:37AM CDT expiring July 13 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL
Very warm and humid conditions are expected again today.
Temperatures will rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat
index readings as high as 100 to 103 in the afternoon hours.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing this afternoon and
becoming more widespread this evening are expected to bring some
relief from the oppressive heat.
The National Weather Service in Quad Cities has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 7 PM CDT
this evening.
* Heat Index Values...100 to 102.
* Timing...1 pm to 7 pm.
* Impacts...Heat-related illnesses are more likely to occur in
these hot and humid conditions, if precautions are not taken.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures and high
humidity is expected. This combination will lead to possible
heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-
conditioned room, stay out of the sun...and check on relatives
and neighbors, especially the elderly.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

NWS Albuquerque NM
Flash Flood Watch issued July 13 at 2:41AM MDT expiring July 14 at 12:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of north and central New Mexico,
including the following areas: East Slopes Sangre de Cristo
Mountains, Jemez Mountains, Northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500
feet including Red River, San Francisco River Valley, San Juan
Mountains, South Central Mountains, Southern Sangre de Cristos
above 9500 feet, Southwest Mountains and West Slopes Sangre de
Cristo Mountains.
* from noon MDT today through this evening
* Scattered to numerous thunderstorms around the northern, southwest
and south-central mountains will continue through late this
evening. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour can be expected.
This is a particular concern on recent wildfire burn scars, where
moderate to heavy rain will lead to flash flooding with the
potential for dangerous debris flows and mud slides.
* The Ute Park, Morris Creek, Sardinas Canyon and Buzzard burn scars
will be particularly vulnerable to moderate to heavy rain, which
could result in dangerous flash flooding, especially on the Ute
Park burn scar near Cimarron. Keep a watchful eye on arroyos,
creeks, small streams and low lying areas, and stay out of flooded
low water crossings. While main stem river flooding is not
expected, rapid rises on area rivers, creeks and streams are
possible.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash
Flood Warnings be issued.

NWS Wilmington NC
Rip Current Statement issued July 13 at 4:45AM EDT expiring July 13 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC
* Location...New Hanover and Pender County beaches.
* Rip Current Risk...High.
* Surf Height...3-4 feet.
* Timing and Tides...Life threatening rip currents can occur at any
time. Strong rip currents are especially dangerous several hours
on either side of low tide and near jetties and piers.
* Other Hazards...Moderate south to north longshore current.
There is a high risk of rip currents. Life threatening rip currents
are likely in the surf zone.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain calm,
do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help. If
you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore and
back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly
against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

NWS Des Moines IA
Flash Flood Watch issued July 13 at 3:48AM CDT expiring July 14 at 10:00AM CDT by NWS Des Moines IA
Thunderstorms are expected to move over central Iowa this
afternoon into tonight tapping into a moisture laden atmosphere.
While it has been relatively dry over the last week or so,
efficient rain producing storms are possible that could lead to
flash flooding late this afternoon into Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Iowa, north central
Iowa, northeast Iowa, south central Iowa, southwest Iowa, and
west central Iowa, including the following areas, in central
Iowa, Boone, Dallas, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper,
Marshall, Polk, Story, Tama, and Webster. In north central
Iowa, Butler, Franklin, and Wright. In northeast Iowa, Black
Hawk and Bremer. In south central Iowa, Madison, Union, and
Warren. In southwest Iowa, Adair, Adams, Cass, and Taylor. In
west central Iowa, Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford,
Greene, Guthrie, and Sac.
* From this afternoon through Saturday morning
* Thunderstorms are expected to move into the watch area this
afternoon and tonight with rain totals of 1 to 2 inches common
and locally higher amounts expected by Saturday morning over
this area.
* Locally heavy rain can lead to flash flooding with water covered
roads and significant urban flooding. Be especially careful for
water over roads and flash flooding at night. Locally heavy
rainfall may cause quick rises on smaller streams and may cause
new river flooding in the coming days.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Small Craft Advisory for Winds issued July 13 at 1:52AM PDT expiring July 14 at 3:00AM PDT by NWS Portland OR
* WINDS...North 15 to 20 kt with gusts of 25 kt through late
Friday night.
* SEAS...8 to 10 ft with a dominant period of 8 to 9 seconds
through late Friday night.
A Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas means that waves are
expected to be hazardous to small craft. Mariners should avoid
shoaling areas. Long period swell can sharpen into large breaking
waves in shoaling areas. It is not unusual for waves to break
much farther from shoaling areas than is normally experienced.
Remember, breaking waves can easily capsize even larger vessels.
A Small Craft Advisory for wind means that wind speeds of 21 to
33 knots are expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.

shoaling areas.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those
operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.

Flash Flood Watch issued July 13 at 3:53AM CDT expiring July 14 at 10:00AM CDT by NWS Omaha/Valley NE
Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon and
continue overnight along a slow-moving cold front drifting toward
Interstate 80. The thunderstorms will be slow-moving as well, and
when combined with abundant moisture in the atmosphere, heavy
rainfall of 1 to 3 inches or more could occur, leading to flash
flooding.
The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for portions of southwest Iowa and Nebraska,
including the following areas, in southwest Iowa, Fremont,
Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby.
In Nebraska, Butler, Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Lancaster, Otoe,
Saline, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward, and Washington.
* From this evening through Saturday morning
* Slow-moving thunderstorms combined with abundant atmospheric
moisture could cause very heavy rainfall tonight. Although
average rainfall amounts will likely total an inch or two,
pockets of heavier rainfall of 3 inches or more could occur,
with could lead to flash flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
