NWS Jackson MS
Heat Advisory issued July 13 at 11:09AM CDT expiring July 13 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Jackson MS
* TEMPERATURE...Temperatures today will climb into the low to mid
90s, with heat index values near 105 to 110 degrees possible
for several hours this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...The combination of hot temperatures and high
humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat-related stress
and illness. The very young, the elderly, those without air
conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor
activities will be the most susceptible.
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and
neighbors.

NWS Birmingham AL
Heat Advisory issued July 13 at 11:10AM CDT expiring July 13 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Birmingham AL
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening.
* TEMPERATURE...temperatures will rise into the middle 90s this
afternoon with heat indices near 105 degrees.
* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses may be possible for those
outdoors in unshaded areas.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest
breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome
by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat
stroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.
A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned
room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and check up
on relatives and neighbors.

* SEAS...10 feet.
* DOMINANT PERIOD...9 seconds.
A Small Craft Advisory for hazardous seas means that waves are
expected to be hazardous to small craft. Mariners should avoid
shoaling areas. Long period swell can sharpen into large breaking
waves in shoaling areas. It is not unusual for waves to break
much farther from shoaling areas than is normally experienced.
Remember, breaking waves can easily capsize even larger vessels.

Rip Current Statement issued July 13 at 12:20PM EDT expiring July 13 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC
* Location...New Hanover and Pender County beaches.
* Rip Current Risk...High.
* Surf Height...3-4 feet.
* Timing and Tides...Life threatening rip currents can occur at any
time. Strong rip currents are especially dangerous several hours
on either side of low tide and near jetties and piers.
* Other Hazards...Moderate south to north longshore current.
There is a high risk of rip currents. Life threatening rip currents
are likely in the surf zone.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain calm,
do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help. If
you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore and
back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly
against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

NWS Jackson MS
Special Weather Statement issued July 13 at 11:30AM CDT by NWS Jackson MS
At 1130 AM CDT, Meteorologists were tracking a strong thunderstorm
near Alcorn, or 30 miles southwest of Vicksburg, moving northeast at
10 mph.
Dime size hail and winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with
this storm.
This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of east central Tensas
Parish in northeastern Louisiana and southwestern Claiborne Counties.
High winds can bring down trees and large limbs resulting in serious
injury or property damage. Exercise extreme caution when outdoors
during such strong winds...and be especially aware of older trees.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Flash Flood Watch issued July 13 at 10:36AM MDT expiring July 14 at 12:00AM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has expanded the
* Flash Flood Watch to include a portion of north and central New
Mexico, including the following areas: Central Highlands,
Estancia Valley, Lower Rio Grande Valley, Middle Rio Grande
Valley including the Albuquerque Metro Area, Northwest Highlands,
Sandia and Manzano Mountains, Santa Fe Metro Area, South Central
Highlands, Upper Tularosa Valley, West Central Highlands and West
Central Mountains.
* through this evening
* Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will increase during the
afternoon and continue through late this evening. Rainfall rates of
1 to 2 inches per hour can be expected. Urban drainages, low lying
areas, and locations that have recently received heavy rainfall
will be very susceptible to flash flooding.
* The Dog Head, Diener Canyon, and Bluewater burn scars will be
particularly vulnerable to moderate to heavy rain, which could
result in dangerous flash flooding with mud slides and debris
flows. Keep a watchful eye on arroyos, creeks, small streams and
low lying areas, and stay out of flooded low water crossings. While
main stem river flooding is not expected, rapid rises on area
rivers, creeks and streams are possible.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash
Flood Warnings be issued.

Red River, San Francisco River Valley, San Juan Mountains, South

* Scattered to numerous thunderstorms around the northern,
southwest and south-central mountains will increase during the
afternoon and continue through late this evening. Rainfall rates
of 1 to 2 inches per hour can be expected. This is a particular
concern on recent wildfire burn scars, where moderate to heavy
