NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI
Gale Warning issued February 8 at 9:24AM EST expiring February 8 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI
Strong low pressure will continue to rapidly deepen as it lifts
northeast south of James Bay today and into Quebec tonight. A very
tight pressure gradient will remain in place over the local waters
today as strong high pressure begins to build into the region from
the northern Plains. Southwest to westerly gales will continue as
cold and unstable air further settles over the region. Gusts in
excess of 40 knots will be possible at times over much of the local
waters. Waves in excess of 10 feet, and occasionally 15-20 feet,
will prevail over much of the open Lake Huron waters. Heavy freezing
spray will also occur over the open Lake Huron waters today and
continuing through tonight. Gusts will begin to diminish below gales
as winds veer more northwesterly as the strong high pressure settles
over the region this weekend.
* WIND: During the Gale Warning, expect sustained winds up to 23
knots from the west with gusts up to 35 knots.
* TIMING: The maximum winds are expected around 9 AM EST Friday.
Refer to the latest marine forecasts for greater detail.
A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

Heavy Freezing Spray Warning issued February 8 at 9:24AM EST expiring February 9 at 4:00AM EST by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI
* Expect heavy freezing spray to occur until 4 AM EST Saturday.
* WIND AND WAVES: During the Gale Warning, expect sustained
winds up to 32 knots from the west with gusts up to 40 knots.
The largest expected significant waves will be 11 feet with a
potential maximum wave height of 16 feet.
* TIMING: The maximum winds are expected around 9 AM EST Friday
with the largest waves expected around 9 AM EST Friday.
Refer to the latest marine forecasts for greater detail.
A Heavy Freezing Spray Warning means heavy freezing spray is
expected to rapidly accumulate on vessels. These conditions can
be extremely hazardous to navigation. It is recommended that
mariners not trained to operate in these conditions or vessels
not properly equipped to do so...remain in port or avoid the
waring area.
A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occuring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

Special Weather Statement issued February 8 at 9:36AM EST by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI
Scattered to numerous lake effect snow showers will continue this
morning, with westerly wind gusts around 40 mph. Although most of
the snow showers will be light, local heavier snow showers and
blowing snow will briefly reduce visibilities below 1 mile. A
quick dusting of snow on area roads with this activity can be
expected as temperatures reside in the teens. Motorists should
be prepared for the rapid changes in driving conditions this
morning.

NWS Honolulu HI
Special Weather Statement issued February 8 at 4:46AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
An unusually strong storm system will move toward the islands
from the north over the weekend, bringing with it multiple weather
hazards. The storm will send a powerful swell toward the islands
that will impact exposed north and west facing shores with very
high surf. Additionally, the combination of strong onshore winds
and high surf will increase the potential for significant coastal
flooding that could lead to property damage, road closures and
beach erosion.
The storm system will also bring strong and potentially damaging
north to northwest winds to the island chain, particularly
Saturday night through Sunday evening. While these winds are
expected to be strongest over ridges and mountaintops, they will
also accelerate downslope, impacting heavily populated areas. In
addition, intense fast moving rain showers or squalls may bring
very strong and damaging winds as the storm makes its closest
approach.
If you have outdoor plans for the weekend, be prepared for very
windy conditions. If your plans include marine activities, you may
want to consider postponing them.
Stay tuned for forecast updates from the National Weather Service or
your favorite media outlet.

NWS Mount Holly NJ
Gale Warning issued February 8 at 9:48AM EST expiring February 9 at 1:00PM EST by NWS Mount Holly NJ
* WINDS AND SEAS...Southwest winds around 10 knots becoming west
around midday and increasing to 15 to 20 knots with gusts up to
30 knots this afternoon. Northwest winds 20 to 25 knots with
gusts up to 35 knots tonight into Saturday. Waves building to 2
to 4 feet.
A Gale Warning means the winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or
occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires
experience and a properly equipped vessel. It is highly
recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe
harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots
are expected to produce wave conditions that are hazardous to
small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating a
small vessel, should avoid navigating in these conditions.
