Special Weather Statement issued March 17 at 6:31AM CDT by NWS Quad Cities IA IL
Areas of dense fog are forming over the fresh snow cover under
clearing skies and light winds this morning. The fog may reduce
visibility down to a quarter mile at times, but is also reported
to be shallow and should start to decrease after sunrise. Along
with the fog, temperatures are dropping into the 20s under the
clearing skies and freezing the wet surfaces up. Thus there will
be the risk for black ice and localized slick spots this morning
until the sun rises high enough to work on the surfaces.
If you are traveling early this morning, be prepared for variable
visibility in a short distance from the fog and leave a little
extra time to reach your destination. The fog will be dense in
spots. Also be aware for black ice and slick spots especially on
bridges and overpasses.
