Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County
.Recent heavy rainfall, combined with backwater from the Mississippi
River, will cause river levels to continue to rise along the Big
Muddy River. Minor flooding will continue at Murphysboro with a crest
around 24.9 feet forecast on Friday.
The Flood Warning continues for
the Big Muddy River near Murphysboro
* until further notice.
* At 11:30 AM Sunday the stage was 23.3 feet.
* Flood Stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 24.9 feet by
Friday morning.

* At 11:16 AM Sunday the stage was 17.6 feet and falling.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast, Rise to 18.7 feet Monday morning, then fall below flood
stage Wednesday morning. The ice jam with additional water from
Waterloo may result in a crest between 18.5 to possibly over 19
feet.
* Impact, At 18.0 feet, Moderate Flood Stage. Water affects the
lowest parts of Riverside Drive, and portions of East 2nd Street
and North 3rd Avenue in Vinton.

* Forecast, the river crested just under 15.9 feet on Saturday
afternoon. It is expected to continue falling to near 13.0 feet
by Monday afternoon.
* Impact, at 14.0 feet...Flood water begins surrounding cottages and
homes downstream from the City of Newaygo in the areas of Leisure
Land Subdivision in Bridgeton Township.
* Flood history, a crest of 16.8 feet occurred on Feb 21 2018.

* County emergency management officials reported that considerable
impacts continue across the county due to the recent heavy rain
and snow melt. Water levels on streams and some lakes continue to
result in hazardous conditions. Multiple road closures persist.
* No significant additional rainfall or snow melt is forecasted
through much of the coming week.
* Water levels will remain elevated for a few days so people should
continue to remain away from the waters edge and not cross any
barriers.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Newaygo, White Cloud, Fremont, Hesperia, Grant, Croton, Bridgeton,

The Atchafalaya River At Morgan City.
* until further notice...or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 12:00 PM Sunday the stage was 8.2 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 6.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 8.2 feet by this
afternoon. Additional rises may be possible thereafter.
* Impact...At stages near 7.0 feet...Buildings at the foot of Ann
Street on the river side of the flood wall will flood as water
overtops the Rio Oil Company dock. Buildings on the river side of
the Berwick floodwall will flood. River traffic restrictions will
be strictly enforced. In addition, backwater flooding could
potentially impact portions areas around Lake Palourde and
Stephensville.
