Winter Weather Advisory issued May 8 at 3:47AM MDT until May 9 at 12:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
Heavy, wet snow will develop over the Sangre de Cristo and Tusas
Mountains as well as around Raton Pass this evening. Snow will
persist near Raton Pass through Thursday morning, but will
continue across the mountains periodically through Friday.
Several inches of snow are expected across the high elevations.
Persons travelling through the area should be alert for slick
bridges and overpasses.
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches,
except 3 to 8 inches above 7500 feet expected. North winds
gusting as high as 40 mph.
* WHERE...Raton Ridge and Johnson Mesa.
* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to noon MDT Thursday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Accumulations will favor grassy or elevated
areas, but slippery road conditions are possible, especially on
bridges and overpasses. The weight of the snow on leafed out
trees may cause branches to break. Additionally, the strong
north winds will cause very low visibility in blowing snow. This
includes I-25 near Raton Pass.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
The latest road conditions for New Mexico can be obtained by
calling 5 1 1 or 1-800-432-4269.
