NWS Cleveland OH
Lakeshore Flood Warning issued May 8 at 9:48AM EDT until May 9 at 8:00AM EDT by NWS Cleveland OH
* LOCATIONS...Erie, Sandusky, Lucas and Ottawa.
* TIMING...Until 8 AM EDT Thursday.
* LAKESHORE FLOODING...Strengthening northeast to easterly winds
today will lead to increasing water levels across the western
Lake Erie basin. As of 930 AM EDT, the water level at Toledo was
70 inches above low water datum. The water level will continue
to rise into this evening, peaking near or above 90 inches
above low water datum. In addition, wave action of 4 to 8 feet
on the western basin of Lake Erie will enhance the flooding
threat and beach erosion. Water levels will begin to recede late
tonight as winds on Lake Erie shift around to the south.
* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Flooding is expected along the immediate
lakeshore. Beach and shoreline erosion is also possible. Rising
water levels in marinas and waterways into the lake may also
submerge docks and shoreline structures.
A Lakeshore Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent along the lake. Residents on or near the shore in the
warned area should be alert for rising water...and take
appropriate action to protect life and property.
Prepare, plan and stay informed. Visit www.weather.gov/safety.
