NWS Albuquerque NM
Winter Weather Advisory issued May 10 at 12:45AM MDT until May 10 at 12:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM
A broad storm system over the Great Basin will steer a
disturbance northeastward across New Mexico tonight into Friday
causing accumulating snow to spread to lower elevations of the
upper Rio Grande Valley, northeast highlands and western parts of
the northeast plains. Moist, easterly upslope flow has kept
temperatures well below normal across north central and northeast
New Mexico today, and low temperatures are expected to drop near
and below freezing late tonight in places like Taos, Las Vegas,
Raton, Roy and Grenville as precipitation becomes more widespread.
A few inches of snow are expected at lower elevations, while as
much as 12 inches of new snow accumulates in the northern
mountains. Temperatures will warm above freezing again at lower
elevations by mid day Friday. The storm system over the Great
Basin will gradually cross southern New Mexico late this weekend
and Monday with the potential for several more inches of snow
accumulation in the mountains above 8000 feet.
* WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches.
* WHERE...Harding and Union Counties, and Far Northeast
Highlands, Northeast Highlands, Upper Rio Grande Valley, Raton
Ridge and Johnson Mesa.
* WHEN...Until noon MDT today.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will
cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads
and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
The latest road conditions for New Mexico can be obtained by
calling 5 1 1 or 1-800-432-4269.
