to move away from the lower Texas coast.
The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a Small
Craft Advisory, which is in effect until 6 PM CDT this evening.
* WINDS...East 15 to 20 knots.
* WAVES/SEAS...Seas 7 to 9 feet diminishing to 6 to 8 feet.

NWS Brownsville TX
Coastal Flood Statement issued May 10 at 11:46AM CDT until May 10 at 6:00PM CDT by NWS Brownsville TX
Strong easterly outflow from earlier storms in the northwest Gulf
is producing tidal overwash and run-up to, or just into, the dunes
on South Padre Island. Run-up will continue well into the
afternoon before gradually subsiding toward sunset and overnight.
* COASTAL FLOODING...Run up to or just into the dunes, with
beaches covered in up to 1 or 2 feet of water where the surf
typically meets the sand.
* TIMING...Peak run up will continue through 1 PM before a slow
subsiding through the afternoon. Some waves will continue to
reach the dune line at thinner beaches through the remainder of
the afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Beach equipment such as umbrellas and chairs could be
moved by the waves. Vehicles along the typical line where the
surf meets the sand will flood. Occasional waves will run a bit
into the dunes through 1 or 2 PM.
Beachgoers should remain vigilant of rough surf and tidal run-up
this afternoon. In addition to the overwash, surf waves up to 8
feet and extreme rip currents are expected through early to mid
afternoon before a gradual drop off toward evening.

NWS Houston/Galveston TX
Small Craft Advisory issued May 10 at 11:49AM CDT until May 10 at 7:00PM CDT by NWS Houston/Galveston TX
Low Coastal Bend pressure has kept the northeasterly pressure
gradient tight enough to maintain Advisory level winds this
morning. Northeast movement of this low will weaken the gradient
enough to lower advisory winds but maintain a high enough swell to
warrant an afternoon advisory.
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
Small Craft Advisory, which is in effect until 7 PM CDT this
evening.
* WINDS...10 to near 25 knots.
* WAVES/SEAS...Choppy bay conditions. 4 to 6 foot nearshore
seas...5 to near 8 foot offshore seas.
A Small Craft Advisory means that wind speeds of 20 to 33 knots...
and/or seas 7 feet or higher...are expected to produce hazardous
conditions for small craft. Inexperienced boaters...especially
those operating smaller vessels should avoid navigating in these
conditions.
