NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Special Weather Statement issued June 8 at 6:33PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
At 632 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm with
intense lightning 9 miles north of Huntersville, or near Mooresville,
moving northwest at 20 mph.
Locations to be impacted include...
Huntersville, Statesville, Kannapolis, Cornelius, Mooresville,
Davidson, Maiden, Landis, Enochville and Westport.
In addition to intense lightning, pea size hail and torrential
rainfall rates up to 3 inches per hour will be possible in these
areas.
Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as
ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded
roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly. Seek
higher ground if threatened by flood waters.
Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If outdoors, try to
get indoors or into a hard topped vehicle. Otherwise, stay away from
open areas and isolated high objects such as trees. When indoors,
stay away from windows and doors and avoid using wired electronic
devices. Do not take a shower or bath. Try to unplug unnecessary
appliances before the storm approaches.

NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Flood Advisory issued June 8 at 6:38PM EDT until June 8 at 8:30PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Hydrologic Advisory for...
Central Greenville County in Upstate South Carolina...
* Until 830 PM EDT.
* At 632 PM EDT, gauge reports indicated that over two inches of
rain have fallen since 2 PM. Although the rain has stopped for the
time being...more rain will move up from the south and across the
Greenville metro area through the middle part of the evening.
The Reedy River is the most likely place to experience minor
flooding. At 6 pm...the river gage on the Reedy River at Westfield
Street in downtown Greenville reached a height of 8.6 feet. At this
level, the Reedy River should be at bankfull through Falls Park, and
will also result in some minor flooding downstream through Cleveland
Park.
The river was reaching a crest and should begin to fall through 8
pm, however, more rain is on the way. How that rain evolves will
determine if the Advisory is extended or if a Warning will be issued.
Stay away from the Reedy River in Falls Park and Cleveland Park to
avoid the danger of being swept away. River banks and culverts can
become unstable and unsafe.
Only when it is safe to do so, please report floodwaters or
landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National
Weather Service by calling toll-free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by
posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP.
Your message should describe the event and the specific location
where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream
names, and other landmarks.

NWS Blacksburg VA
Flash Flood Watch issued June 8 at 6:42PM EDT until June 9 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
Several waves of heavy rain producing showers and isolated
thunderstorms will move across our region through Sunday. This
rainfall will be locally enhanced by easterly flow into the
Blue Ridge where an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall
in spots. This could lead to flash flooding especially along
smaller creeks and streams.
The Flash Flood Watch continues for
* Portions of North Carolina and Virginia, including the
following areas, in North Carolina, Alleghany NC, Ashe,
Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin. In
Virginia, Carroll, Floyd, Franklin, Grayson, Henry,
Montgomery, Patrick, and Roanoke.
* Through Sunday evening
* Rainfall averaging one to two inches, with locally higher
amounts, is expected to fall through Sunday. Some of this
rainfall may fall in a relatively short period of time
resulting in flash flooding.
* The heavy rain may cause creeks and streams to leave their
banks including rapid rises of flowing water in naturally low
areas.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
Remember...TURN AROUND...DON'T DROWN!
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

NWS Paducah KY
Flood Advisory issued June 8 at 5:57PM CDT until June 8 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Paducah KY
The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas
for...
Central Warrick County in southwestern Indiana...
Central Spencer County in southwestern Indiana...
* Until 900 PM CDT.
* At 554 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in
the advisory area. Radar estimates of up to one inch of rain has
already fallen in eastern Spencer County.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Boonville, Rockport, Grandview, Folsomville, Chrisney, Tennyson
and Gentryville.
Additional rainfall of one half to one and a half inches is expected
over the area. The majority of the rain may occur in an hour of less
and result in minor flooding.
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.
A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding
of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.

NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Flash Flood Warning issued June 8 at 6:59PM EDT until June 8 at 10:00PM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northeastern McDowell County in western North Carolina...
Southwestern Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Caldwell County in western North Carolina...
Southeastern Avery County in western North Carolina...
Burke County in western North Carolina...
* Until 1000 PM EDT.
* At 657 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
fallen since 5 pm across parts of Burke County to the east of
Morganton and this rain will continue to develop and spread north
into Caldwell and eastern Avery counties. Flash flooding is likely
occurring or will begin shortly.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Lenoir, Morganton, Longview, Sawmills, Granite Falls, Valdese,
Gamewell, Hudson, Icard and Cajah's Mountain.
Additional rainfall amounts of two or three inches are possible in
the warned area.
Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Do not attempt to cross
water-covered roadways, bridges, or low-level crossings. Only a few
inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is
not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, highways, and underpasses. Addditionally, country
roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams, and other
low-lying areas are subject to flooding.
When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides
flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather
Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on
our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message
should describe the event and the specific location where it
occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and
other landmarks.
