NWS Anchorage AK
Marine Weather Statement issued January 19 at 8:39AM AKST by NWS Anchorage AK
The areas affected include...
Castle Cape to Cape Sarichef...
At 839 AM AKST, seismic activity and satellite imagery indicated
that Shishaldin volcano was erupting, with trace or dusting of
volcanic ash, 45 nm southwest of Cold Bay, or 54 nm west of King
Cove. Winds are expected to remain westerly through the day,
turning more northwesterly this afternoon which should carry the
plume out over marine areas.
The trace or dusting of volcanic ash will remain over mainly open
waters.
Ash is an eye and respiratory irritant and is abrasive. Those with
respiratory sensitivities should take extra precautions to minimize
exposure. Protect electronics and cover air intakes if ashfall is
expected or confirmed. Remove ash from surfaces with water if
possible to prevent excessive accumulation.
