NWS Charleston SC
Flood Advisory issued June 11 at 5:41PM EDT until June 11 at 7:45PM EDT by NWS Charleston SC
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a
* Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in...
Colleton County in southeastern South Carolina...
* Until 745 PM EDT.
* At 538 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding. Overflowing poor
drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.
Rain gauges in the Walterboro area indicate that 1.5 to 2.5 inches
of rain have fallen in the last hour and a half.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Walterboro.
Heavy rainfall will continue to impact the Walterboro area over the
next 1 to 2 hours. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will
be possible through the early evening hours. The intense rainfall
will cause poor travel conditions in the Walterboro area, and
flooding of roadways and intersections will be possible.
This heavy rainfall will result in significant ponding of water on
area roads and in low spots. Slow down to reduce the risk of
hydroplaning. If water covers the entire roadway or is flowing, find
another route. The water is probably much deeper than it appears and
only one foot of water can stall a vehicle. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice, turn around, don't drown.
Do not drive into areas where water covers the roadway. The water may
be too deep to cross safely. Make the smart choice, turn around,
don't drown.

NWS Raleigh NC
Special Weather Statement issued June 11 at 5:55PM EDT by NWS Raleigh NC
At 551 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a line of showers and
strong thunderstorms with very heavy rain extending near and long
Interstate-85 from just north of Durham to the Virginia state line.
The line of showers and storms was moving slowly east with
individual cells moving northeast at 25 mph.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible with these storms. Because
of the slow storm motion and potential for multiple rounds of storms
with very heavy rain to go over the same area, minor flooding is
possible.
Locations impacted include... Durham, Henderson, Oxford, Creedmoor,
Warrenton, Butner, Franklinton, Norlina, Kittrell and Stem.
Very heavy rain can be expected due to the slow movement of these
storms. Prolonged heavy rain will result in ponding of water on
roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of
creeks and streams. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra
caution to avoid hydroplaning.
