NWS Grand Junction CO
Air Quality Alert issued August 11 at 9:10AM MDT by NWS Grand Junction CO
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has
issued the following...
WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke.
WHERE...Eagle, northern Mesa, central and eastern Garfield, and
eastern Rio Blanco counties. Locations include, but are not
limited to Eagle, Edwards, Avon, Vail, Palisade, De Beque,
Parachute, Rifle, Silt, Newcastle, Glenwood Springs, Meeker and
Buford.
WHEN...900 AM Tuesday August 11 to 900 AM Wednesday August 12
IMPACTS...Areas of moderate to heavy smoke have been observed
Tuesday morning across large portions of western Colorado from the
Pine Gulch and Grizzly Creek wildfires. By late Tuesday morning,
smoke will dissipate as atmospheric mixing increases. The wind at
the fires Tuesday afternoon and evening will mainly be out of a
west to southwest direction. This will bring periods of mainly
light to moderate smoke to areas east and northeast of the fires,
however brief periods of heavy smoke will also be possible. By
late Tuesday evening smoke will begin to drain into lower lying
areas surrounding both fires. This will bring longer duration,
heavy smoke through early Wednesday morning to several drainages
including Hunter Canyon, Corcoran Wash, South Dry Fork, Middle Dry
Fork, North Dry Fork, Dry Fork Roan Creek, Roan Creek and Kimball
Creek near the Pine Gulch wildfire; and locations along Interstate
70 and the Colorado River Valley in central and eastern parts of
Garfield County near the Grizzly Creek wildfire.
HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is
thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain
indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease,
respiratory illnesses, the very young, and the elderly. Consider
limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present.
Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is
making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in
your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

Washington AR. in Oklahoma...Adair...Cherokee...Choctaw...
Haskell...Latimer...Le Flore...McIntosh...Muskogee...
Pittsburg...Pushmataha and Sequoyah.
* Until 10 PM CDT this evening
* A slow moving upper low will move across the region this
afternoon into the evening hours. Scattered strong thunderstorms
with very heavy rainfall are likely with the potential for
localized flash flooding across portions of southeast Oklahoma
and northwest Arkansas. Widespread 1 to 2 inch rainfall totals
are expected with locally higher amounts of 5 to 6 inches. A few
lingering storms will be possible this evening, mainly across
southeast Oklahoma, before activity begins to weaken.
A flash flood watch means rapidly rising water or flooding is
possible within the watch area. If you are in the watch area,
keep informed, and be ready for quick action if flash flooding is
observed or if a warning is issued.
