High Surf Advisory issued January 16 at 6:42PM PST until January 19 at 10:00PM PST by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet this evening through
Sunday. The surf will diminish somewhat Sunday night before a
larger swell brings surf of 6 to 10 feet by Monday afternoon.
Surf will slowly diminish by Tuesday evening. The largest surf
will occur across exposed west facing beaches with dangerous rip
currents.
* WHERE...Los Angeles County Coast and Catalina and Santa
Barbara Islands.
* WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of drowning. There will
be dangerous rip currents they can pull swimmers and surfers
out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people
off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.
Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay
near occupied lifeguard towers. Stay off rock jetties as they can
be deadly in such conditions when waves break over them.
If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against
the current. If able, swim in a direction following the
shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave
for help.

NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
High Surf Advisory issued January 16 at 6:42PM PST until January 19 at 10:00PM PST by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet will continue
through Tuesday. Local sets to 9 feet possible on Monday. The
largest surf will occur across exposed west facing beaches
with dangerous rip currents.
* WHERE...Santa Barbara County South Coast.
* WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Tuesday.
If able, swim in a direction following the
shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave
for help.
