NWS Blacksburg VA
Special Weather Statement issued January 22 at 1:00AM EST by NWS Blacksburg VA
An area of low pressure and an upper-level disturbance moving
northeast along the South Carolina/North Carolina coast spread
light snow back northwest across the foothills and piedmont of
northern North Carolina into Southside Virginia and the Virginia
piedmont Friday evening. The snowfall was ending from west to east
early this morning and no significant additional accumulations of
snow are expected at this time.
Snowfall was confined generally to areas east of a line from
Wilkesboro, to Stuart, to Martinsville, to Danville, to Charlotte
Court House. Snowfall amounts ranged from 1/4 to 1/2 inch around
Wilkesboro, Pilot Mountain, Danbury, King, Reidsville, and
Danville to 1 inch at Stuart. Then further east from Charlotte
Court House to South Boston to Yanceyville, snowfall ranged from 1
to 2 inches.
Temperatures will remain well below freezing in these areas this
morning. In fact it will be bitterly cold this morning as winds
increase and temperatures fall mostly in the mid and upper teens
by daybreak. Untreated roads and walkways will remain slick and
hazardous through the morning hours.
Travel through this region is discouraged this morning. If you
must travel in this area this morning, please use extreme caution,
reduce speed, leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in
front of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Given the bitterly cold temperatures, conditions will be slow to
improve after daybreak.
Given the bitter cold, please consider keeping an extra blanket
in your vehicle as well as a full set of winter weather attire,
such as a heavy coat, gloves, ear muffs, a scarf and/or hat with
you in the event that you become stranded.

their vessel. If possible, remain in port, avoid the warning area
or conduct mitigation.
Anyone operating a smaller vessel should avoid navigating in
hazardous conditions.

NWS Honolulu HI
High Surf Warning issued January 21 at 8:38PM HST until January 23 at 6:00AM HST by NWS Honolulu HI
AAA
* WHAT...Surf building to 35 to 50 feet along north facing shores
of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, and Maui. Surf building to 25
to 35 feet along west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and
Molokai.
* WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu,
and Molokai, and north facing shores of Maui.
* WHEN...Surf will peak late tonight through Saturday morning,
which coincides with the early morning high tide between 5 and 6
AM HST. A gradual downward trend is expected through the second
half of the weekend.
* IMPACTS...Very High. Expect ocean water surging and sweeping
across beaches, coastal benches, and lava flows creating the
potential for impacts to coastal properties and infrastructure,
including roadways. Powerful longshore and rip currents will be
present at most beaches. Large breaking waves and strong
currents may impact harbor entrances and channels causing
challenging boat handling. Strong currents in exposed harbors,
such as Haleiwa, could become strong.
Large, breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous
currents make entering the water very hazardous.
Anyone entering the water could face significant injury or death.
