NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
Winter Storm Warning issued January 9 at 2:02AM EST until January 9 at 12:00PM EST by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations up to two inches.
Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
* WHERE...Western Grant and Western Pendleton Counties.
* WHEN...Until noon EST today.
* IMPACTS...Brief whiteout conditions are possible with visibilities
dropping below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. The
strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines
and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very
difficult along US-48 west of Scherr, WV. The hazardous conditions
look to worsen during the overnight hours.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall rates around 0.5 to 1 inch per hour
are possible at times through Thursday morning especially in
embedded snow squalls. Wind chills of 15 to -5 are possible
through Thursday morning.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you
must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will
keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to
reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a
hat will keep you from losing your body heat.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
