NWS Caribou ME
Gale Warning issued March 2 at 8:53AM EST until March 2 at 5:00PM EST by NWS Caribou ME
* WHAT...For the Gale Warning, northwest winds 20 to 25 kt with
gusts up to 35 kt and seas 4 to 6 ft. For the Freezing Spray
Advisory, moderate accumulation of freezing spray.
* WHERE...Coastal Waters from Eastport, ME to Schoodic Point, ME
out 25 NM and Coastal Waters from Schoodic Point, ME to
Stonington, ME out 25 NM.
* WHEN...For the Gale Warning, until 5 PM EST this afternoon.
For the Freezing Spray Advisory, until 10 AM EST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Operating a vessel in freezing spray is hazardous.
Freezing spray may render mechanical and electronic components
inoperative. Ice accretion on decks and superstructures may
result in some loss of stability. Strong winds will cause
hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and
reduce visibility.
During freezing spray conditions the U.S. Coast Guard advises
that you ensure all lifesaving equipment remains free of ice.
Mariners should prepare for accumulation of ice on their vessel
and consider altering plans to avoid or mitigate these hazardous
navigating conditions.
Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions.
Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the
vessel for hazardous conditions.
