NWS San Juan PR
Rip Current Statement issued March 6 at 3:28AM AST until March 6 at 6:00PM AST by NWS San Juan PR
* WHAT...Life-threatening rip currents in the surf zone.
* WHERE...Northern and northeastern exposed beaches of Puerto
Rico.
* WHEN...Through this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water, where it becomes difficult to
return to safety.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain
calm, do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for
help. If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to
shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to
swim directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.

NWS Juneau AK
Winter Storm Warning issued March 5 at 10:34PM AKST until March 7 at 12:00PM AKST by NWS Juneau AK
...ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR HIGHWAYS IN THE NORTHERN PANHANDLE...
.No changes since previous update. A front moving up from the
south Thursday night into Friday is expected to bring heavy
precipitation. Ahead of the front, northernly winds look to pull
cold air from Canada into the northern panhandle, which would
lower snow levels and temps. But as the front tracks northward,
warm, southerly air looks to increase snow levels to around 1500
ft. Moderate to heavy snow is likely, before the warmer air moves
in and allows rain to mix in.
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8
inches.
* WHERE...Haines Borough and Klukwan, from near mile marker 20
to the border.
* WHEN...From 9 PM Thursday to noon AKST Friday.
* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...For the Haines Highway, light snow will
begin Thursday evening with the heavier snow mainly after 9
PM. Average snowfall rates will be up to 0.5 to 1 inch per
hour with rates exceeding 1 inch per hour and visibilities
reduced to 1 statue mile or less at times. Light to moderate
snow will linger into Friday afternoon with rain mixing in at
times. For areas near sea level, including Haines, a rain/snow
mix is likely into Friday afternoon before transitioning to
rain late Friday afternoon.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water
with you in case of an emergency.
People are urged to prepare their property before the onset of
winter weather.

NWS Fairbanks AK
Blizzard Warning issued March 5 at 10:46PM AKST until March 6 at 12:00PM AKST by NWS Fairbanks AK
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Total snow accumulations
of 3 to 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 75 mph.
* WHERE...Bering Strait Coast and St Lawrence Island.
* WHEN...Until noon AKST Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing
snow could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerously
cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite
on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Significant blowing and drifting snow as
well as whiteout conditions are expected or already occurring.
St. Lawrence Island conditions will deteriorate this
evening/overnight as falling snow commences.
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely difficult.
