NWS Tiyan GU
Special Weather Statement issued March 14 at 4:11PM ChST by NWS Tiyan GU
A large, long-period northerly swell is moving through the region now.
Buoy data shows 6-9 foot northerly swell with periods of 14-17
seconds and well timed with the full moon phase and its higher high
tides. For the northern islands, surf is currently around 14 feet and
experiencing the greatest risk for coastal inundation along north
facing shores exposed to the open ocean, and also within the lagoons.
Water can pile into lagoons if open to the ocean on their north side
and closed along the southern edge with few reef passes to allow
water to flow through. Inundation can cause debris to cover
vulnerable property, roads and even airport runways. Sea heights
around 11 to 14 feet are making inter-travel between islands
hazardous. Atolls such as Majuro, Kwajalein, Jaluit, and Mili, are
being shadowed somewhat by the more northern islands, currently
reducing the max surf and sea height, but this will not be enough to
prevent hazardous conditions. Current observations and satellite
altimetry data suggest surf is up to 12 feet at Majuro with seas
around 11 feet, but seas could peak around 13 feet tonight. Minor
coastal inundation is still possible, with the greatest risk along
north facing shores exposed to the open ocean and within the lagoons.
Model guidance has conditions peaking late this evening or tonight
and then slowly decreasing Saturday. Models are sometimes a little
quick to bring down the large swell, so expect hazardous conditions
to continue for most of the weekend as the northerly swell slowly
weakens with a more noticeable improvement by Sunday night or
Monday.
Residents should monitor local sea conditions and forecasts and be
alert for minor flooding and debris on roads and property near shore
lines, along with dangerous surf, swimming, and boating conditions.
Stay up to date with information from your Weather Service Office in
Majuro, and any information shared from local emergency management
offices. The latest Majuro forecasts can be found at
weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts.

NWS Goodland KS
High Wind Warning issued March 14 at 1:28AM CDT until March 14 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Goodland KS
* WHAT...Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph
expected.
* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Colorado, northwest
and west central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska.
* WHEN...From 10 AM MDT /11 AM CDT/ this morning to 8 PM MDT /9 PM
CDT/ this evening.
* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and
cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for
high profile vehicles. Plumes of blowing dust will create pockets
of low visibility. Visibilities will likely change rapidly over
short distances, making travel hazardous in these areas.
Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to
the onset of winds.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and
avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution
if you must drive.
Blowing dust can significantly lower air quality and it is
encouraged that you take preventative measures such as staying
indoors or wearing protective breathing masks if outside. High dust
concentrations can cause respiratory problems, decrease lung
activity, aggravate asthma, and lead to potential heart-related
problems, especially with children, elderly or those with
pre-existing respiratory conditions.

NWS Goodland KS
High Wind Warning issued March 14 at 1:28AM CDT until March 14 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Goodland KS
* WHAT...Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
expected.
* WHERE...In Kansas, Decatur, Sheridan, and Gove Counties. In
Nebraska, Red Willow County.
* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 9 PM CDT this evening.
* IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and
cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for
high profile vehicles. Plumes of blowing dust will create pockets
of low visibility. Visibilities will likely change rapidly over
short distances, making travel hazardous in these areas.
Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to
the onset of winds.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and
avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution
if you must drive.
Blowing dust can significantly lower air quality and it is
encouraged that you take preventative measures such as staying
indoors or wearing protective breathing masks if outside. High dust
concentrations can cause respiratory problems, decrease lung
activity, aggravate asthma, and lead to potential heart-related
problems, especially with children, elderly or those with
pre-existing respiratory conditions.

NWS Wichita KS
Red Flag Warning issued March 14 at 1:30AM CDT until March 14 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Wichita KS
* Catastrophic Grassland Fire Danger...
* Winds...South 30 to 45 mph with gusts 55 to 70 mph.
* Relative Humidity...As low as 15 percent.
* Impacts...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and
become very difficult or impossible to control. This is a
particularly dangerous situation where a risk of property
damage or loss of life could occur. Outdoor burning should be
avoided today.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the
field of this fire weather product.
