NWS Goodland KS
Winter Storm Watch issued March 16 at 9:36PM MDT until March 19 at 12:00PM MDT by NWS Goodland KS
* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations up
to one inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.
* WHERE...Portions of east central Colorado, northwest and west
central Kansas, and southwest Nebraska.
* WHEN...From late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.
* IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and
blowing snow. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous
conditions could impact the Wednesday morning commute. Strong
winds could cause tree damage.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Rain is expected to transition to snow
Tuesday night after sunset. Strong winds gusting to 55 mph will be
possible during the rain and transition period creating travel
concerns initially in east central Colorado prior to 12 AM
Midnight Tuesday night.
Prepare for possible blizzard conditions. Continue to monitor the
latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.
Travel on Interstate 70 could become dangerous or impossible due to
falling or blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility. Whiteout
conditions often lead to disorientation, resulting in a
life-threatening situation. Do not travel unless it is absolutely
necessary.
