National Severe Storms Forecast Center (NSSFC) data 1950s-1980s

During 2024, the Storm Prediction Center efforted digitizing 155 rolls of microfilm containing products stored by the National Severe Storms Forecast Center (NSSFC) between the 1950s and 1980s. 484 PDF files were created with the converted products with some Optical Character Recognition (OCR) performed. The IEM/mtarchive project was provided 25 zip files of this information and is making it along with processed products freely available on this website.

Looking for collaborators! Anybody that is interested in helping out, please email daryl herzmann ( akrherz@iastate.edu ). He'd happily take any ideas/help and if you create some processed data product, we would be happy to freely store it here for others to use.

Since the zip files are larger than 2-4 GB, you have to pass UNZIP_DISABLE_ZIPBOMB_DETECTION=TRUE unzip downloadedfile.zip to unzip.
